Step Up, Step Further can support eligible Florida K-12 students attending public or private schools by helping families access educational resources that allow students to thrive while remaining in their preferred learning environments.
The Education Freedom Tax Credit is a federal initiative that allows taxpayers to reduce their tax liability by claiming a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for contributions to eligible scholarship-granting organizations. These contributions are then used to fund scholarships for eligible students, who can then spend their awarded funds on allowable educational expenses.
Beginning January 1, 2027, individual taxpayers may claim a federal tax credit of up to $1,700 to apply to their tax liability. Married couples filing jointly may claim up to $3,400, when each spouse makes a $1,700 contribution to an approved SGO. Taxpayers can begin making contributions when the program officially launches.
The Education Freedom Tax Credit will be open to individual taxpayers who make a donation to an approved SGO beginning in 2027. Donations cannot be made for the tax credit prior to January 1, 2027.
Students who are Florida residents, meet the age requirements to be enrolled in a Florida public K-12 school, will attend a Florida K-12 public or private school in 2027-28, and who have a household income of less than or equal to 300% AMI for their county of residence, adjusted for household size.
The Step Up, Step Further Scholarship will help eligible Florida K-12 students attending public and private schools access educational resources beginning in 2027.
The scholarship can help students access additional resources to support their learning and development while remaining in their preferred educational environments. Eligible students may also be able to combine this opportunity with existing Step Up or AAA Florida scholarships, subject to applicable program requirements.
